During Instructional Technology Leadership I was able to learn many valuable lessons that I can use as I move toward becoming a teacher leader. Having a technology vision to guide your school is imperative. This vision should be clear precise and obtainable, in order to keep everyone motivated and with a full understanding of what is expected. I learned that having a precise measurement of your school is just as important as your vision as you need to truly understand your deficiencies as well as your strengths. Using the SWOT analysis I was able to build a true picture of my school and use this information to create an action plan to reach our goals. Finally creating an action plan with evaluation measures to help teachers understand exactly what steps to take to achieve our vision. Using each of these steps we can meet the needs of our students and build a cohesive unity amongst our staff on what we want to achieve.
Using these tools I have learned will truly help me as I move toward becoming and educational leader. Already this school year I have had the privilege of being on our leadership team at the school and using the SWOT method to build our School Improvement Plan. I learned that as a team we learned how to help make our school better and we gained a new since of motivation because we all realized we have the same educational goals for the school. I will use this process as I move forward, especially to achieve the faculty buy in toward the school vision. Once you have the buy in from the teachers, helping them learn new technological practices to improve their instruction will be easier to implement and create a true student centered learning environment.
