5.2 Professional Learning: Candidates develop and implement technology-based professional learning that aligns to state and national professional learning standards, integrates technology to support face-to-face and online components, models principles of adult learning, and promotes best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment. (PSC 5.2/ISTE 4b)
I created a Canvas LMS workshop for the teachers at my school. Many of our teachers have never used Canvas and our county is pushing the schools to implement its many uses in our classrooms. So this workshop explains to the teachers how to use Canvas while providing them a step by step implementation guide. The second artifact is my coaching journal in which I assisted with another social studies teacher on how to create rigorous technology lessons to help comply with the school’s rigorous lessons inititiative. I was able to first work one on one to address his teaching needs, then model the lesson with his students as well as providing him with feedback toward his current lesson. Both of these artifacts show how I am able to work with my fellow faculty members in group and individual levels to best integrate technology into their classroom.
With this artifact I was able to develop and implement a technology-based professional learning, teaching my faculty how to use Canvas, as well as introducing the webquest concept to assist my colleague with using technology. Both of these professional learning experiences align with both national and state professional learning standards as they work with both ISTE technology standards and they allow teachers another avenue to teach their topics using technology. Through the workshop I was able to create a website that provided examples of how to use canvas to provide a professional learning support help as well as providing a face to face concept in which I was able to assist a teacher with a one on one support as well as through the workshop with multiple teachers. By providing both these workshops and one on one I was able to model the various principles of adult learning to help teachers create rigorous lessons such as webquest student led learning concepts as well as the Canvas technology that promoted new ways to assess their students and promote the best practices in teaching, learning and assessments.
By creating this artifact I was able to learn how to create a website that would help teachers learn how to use the Canvas website and continue to learn how to use this website. I also learned how to present material to the school faculty and the best methods to conduct a professional learning. I also learned how to work with an individual teacher to help understand their need and assist them in creating a technology goal and plan to increase the rigor in their lesson plans. I also learned how to model the lesson plan in order to provide the teacher with a live example and give them an opportunity to be comfortable with the lesson. One change I would’ve made would be to incorporate more lesson examples on my professional learning website and I would’ve also worked with another teacher to allow me to work more one on one during the workshop as well and have two of us working with the faculty.
This artifact has a direct impact on school improvement as it focuses on providing rigor in the classroom and using technology to incorporate more student directed learning. This provides students with the ability to direct their learning in the topic as well as being able to use technology to create products that use their vision of the learning concept. This artifact is focused on improving the faculties’ lessons through professional learning workshops as well as using one on one support to improve lessons. Overall all both the workshop and one on one lessons improve student, teacher and school rigor. The success would be evident through the use of Canvas in their lessons as well as the teachers use of the webquest after the one to one assistance.

During this workshop my goal is to help implement the Hall County’s new LMS systems using Canvas. My goal is to help teachers understand how to use the website to add students, resources, content and use all of the Canvas teachers. My goal to implement this is by creating an online web quest that teachers can go to and gives them step by step instructions on how to complete. Giving the instructor more time to help teachers who need more assistance as well as to focus the in-service on strategies to promote student centered learning using Canvas. In order to accomplish this last goal I would have teachers divide into their content groups and collaborate on methods to use this site and the tools I have placed on the site to create student centered learning lessons.
In order to evaluate these tools, I would first have every teacher answer the survey I have placed on the site using google forms. Then I would also have every teacher send me their current Canvas site and review if they completed all of the steps. I would also have each teacher group present their lessons they created and have them place those lessons on their current websites. In order to help teachers after the training I would meet up one on one with them to see how Canvas was working with them and how their lessons went. I would also ask my teachers if I could observe them teaching their student centered lessons. Finally I can use the teaches Canvas stats as I work with each teacher to see their productivity using Canvas, as well as teachers grades of and how well their lower end students did in the course using these resources.
