Reflection: 4.2 Safe, Healthy, Legal & Ethical Use: Candidates model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. (PSC 4.2/ISTE 5b) Copyright presentation and Internet Safety blog post were both artifacts I created to model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. For my blog post I wrote about the negatives that can occur with improper internet use and ways in which students can use netiquette to promote safe and healthy uses to use technology. I also created a copyright presentation to show teachers and students the correct way to gather sources but provide the proper credit to individuals who the garnered the information from. I was able to model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information and technologies through both my blog and my copyright presentation. In the blog I discussed ways in which students can use the internet safely and healthy ways for them to use social media. I was also able to create a copyright presentation that allowed me to model legal and ethical uses of digital information as it shows the correct ways to provide credit to all resources used for your presentations. By creating both of these I have been able to share my writing and copyright presentations with my fellow teachers and students to ensure they also facilitate safe, healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information and technology. By creating these artifacts I was able to learn the various copyright laws and how they affect teachers. I was also able to learn sites and tools for teachers to use so they don’t break any of the copyright laws. I was also able to learn many of the ways that students use social media and how it can affect them as they move forward in life. One way that I would’ve improved upon these resources would first I would’ve used more research and possibly created my own poll to understand the various tools that are popular among students and how these tools affect students. I would’ve also created more examples in my copyright presentation of how not following these rules do have consequences and what those consequences are. This artifact had an impact on our faculty as it illustrates the appropriate way to share resources in the classroom and tools they can use to ensure they are using ethical and healthy resources in their classroom. These artifacts also ensure that students are using social media safe and ethical to ensure they are not placing themselves in dangerous situations. It also ensures that students are creating projects that follow along the copyright laws as well. Creating a safe environment in the school is a part of our school improvement plan and using these resources will ensure that our students and faculty are using safe and ethical strategies while using the internet. |
