Reflection:
I created the SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis process that identifies the areas of a school that need improvement that we are doing well or that threaten the advancement in school. I also created the Action and Evaluation plan which provides a plan to uses the information gathered from the SWOT plan and provides a guideline and plan to achieve your school vision. I was personally responsible for creating both of these documents under the premise that I was using my school as the reference and I was making changes to improve my school. Each of these documents provide clear indications of academic design, developing a technology infused plan with implementation strategies and how to communicate this plan to the school. By using the SWOT plan I can evaluate each year how the school improves and create new strategies for improving each year.
The use of a SWOT analysis provides any school an avenue to facilitate the evaluation of their technology infused plan. By providing a guidelines to evaluate your school and allows you to look at your school through a different lens. Through these guidelines you are able to self-reflect the schools vision, current use of technology, plan to implement the schools vision and many other aspects that help schools have a true representation of their school. The SWOT analysis provides you a way to evaluate how well you have been moving toward your school vision and gives you a true indication whether or not you were able to achieve your goal. This evaluation can help in creating an action plan to address the weaknesses found in your school and any threats that may arise. I designed the SWOT analysis through school research. I first had the faculty and administration at my school take a technology survey focusing on our school technology and their technology instruction. I then researched the county and schools current educational technology action plan and vision. I was also able to have group discussions during the school Technology trainings to find out where the technology areas in the school were underdeveloped. I finally presented this information to the administration to acquire their evaluation of the SWOT analysis and discuss a plan to address these issues. In order to facilitate improvement in my school I was able to design and develop a strategic Action Plan for my school. This Action Plan addresses ways to facilitate the implementation of technology infused educational plans. A key aspect of developing an implementation plan for school technology was fostering an environment that allows teachers to learn new technologies as well as how to use them in the classroom to create a rigorous student directed educational lesson plans. The plan also creates a student directed approach which focuses on differentiation amongst students as well as ways to facilitate a diverse technology design that promotes strategies for equity amongst all students. Using the SWOT evaluations the Action Plan allows the school to develop a plan that implements research based strategies to develop all aspects of the school. In order to facilitate communication the Action Plan was to provide teachers with technology to assist with communicating to parents and students. Using concepts like remind to assist teachers in connecting to students through text message and help students stay up to date via text message. Also through professional learning in Canvas the schools LMS and weebly.com to provide teachers resources to provide classroom information for parents and students and help maintain the lines of communication with the daily activities in the classroom. Facilitating communication is also another aspect of the SWOT analysis as this document helps communicate to the teachers and administration the areas that need to be addressed in order to improve school technology use.
From this artifact I learned how to introspective look at my school and make valuable reflections on the schools technology use. This also taught me valuable information about my school through the data I observed and discussions I had with the school after the SWOT analysis. I then was able to create an Action Plan to help address these areas of need throughout multiple areas of the school. However one area I would change about both the SWOT and Action Plan would be to first include members of the faculty to provide their insight on the areas the school could improve and the areas that our strengths, while also providing assistance with ways the school can improve and strategies to use. I would also include more school Data to ensure there are no biases presented and stereotypes are avoided.
This artifact has a direct impact on school improvement as the SWOT is designed to find area of needs and the Action Plan is a progressive plan to enhance all of these areas. Specifically designing many professional learning opportunities to foster faculty development and create a technology rich rigorous learning environment. To improve upon student learning many of these professional learning opportunities will be student directed learning projects and designs that have the student guided learning. The impact of the Action Plan would be how well we improve the areas of weaknesses found in the SWOT analysis. To evaluate the professional learning we would have teachers provide lesson plans at the end of their in-service training, as well as administrative walk through’s looking for technological based lessons. Finally for students based learning we would use the projects and student products that exemplify the learning of the unit.
