6.3 Field Experience: Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. (PSC 6.3)
I have been able to perform multiple field experiences over the past two years. The most impactful one for my school as well as for myself was my capstone field experience. For this Field Experience I was able to create an in-service for my school that promoted technology education. The benefit of this particular experience is the fact that we not only teach the faculty about the technology we show them how to use it. We also focus on showing teachers how to create student led rigorous uses of technology with their content to help change how technology is used today at Chestatee High School.
This artifact clearly demonstrates my ability to engage in a field experience that synthesizes and applies the content and professional knowledge and skills gained throughout my entire master’s experience. This field experience shows first the ability to research the best teaching practices, which I used to create this professional learning moment for the educators. Then I was able to synthesize this data and then apply it to educating my staff through professional learning about the various technologies I have learned through this course. This field experience is a culmination of every aspect of my master’s course and a true synthesis of how to apply all of the knowledge I gained during this time.
From this artifact I have learned first how to research and apply the best educational practices to a teacher professional learning. I also learned how to deliver educational technology content to my fellow teachers to allow them to have the best educational technology practices. Finally I learned how to evaluate the success of my professional learning and how to evaluate the content I provide to the teachers. One way that I would improve my professional learning would be to have fellow teachers to join in and show our fellow teachers the new technology they have picked up. This would generate new faculty buy in and allow teachers to hear from new voices and concepts they can use in their classroom.
By creating this artifact I have created an impact for my school, faculty and in the end student learning. By promoting rigorous student centered learning through the ideas that I taught to the teachers in the professional learning both students and faculty development are both dramatically improved. Teachers will be able to take these lessons directly back to their classroom and this would be evident in the technology use by the teachers as well as more student led projects throughout the school. This overall will have a direct impact on school improvement and goes along the guidelines of the school improvement plan when referenced improved rigor and differentiation in the classroom. Once these technologies will be used we will look for improved student scores in standardized test as well.
