1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs, & Funding
Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures,
programs and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared
vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal
technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the
development, submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals. (PSC

Reflection:
The artifacts created to exemplify the concepts of policies, procedures, programs and funding were both the Emerging Technology assignment and the Instructional Technology Grant Proposals. The Emerging Technology assignment from ITEC 7460 allowed me to present the concept of Britannica E-books. I was able to research the benefits of using Britannica E-books as well as research the costs associated with it and show how it would be implemented if it were used. The second artifact was the Instructional Technology Grant Proposal from ITEC 7410. This assignment allowed me to research various grant funding’s for technology and prepare a grant to purchase new technology for the school. This particular grant I chose was from Hewlett Packard and was for $5,000 dollars to purchase new Chromebook’s for the school. Both of these assignments I created and were designed to replicate the idea of presenting either a new technology to an administrator or creating a grant to find funds for our school.
Both the Emerging Technology Presentation as well as the Instructional Technology Grant Proposal provide evidence of research on the pros of each technology. Research for the Instructional Technology Grant was provided to understand the benefits of using Chromebook’s in the classroom, how much the Chromebook’s would cost as well as how we would implement the Chromebook’s in the classroom environment. There was also very similar research for Brittanica E-books, as we had to be able to show to the administration all of the details regarding this new technology and why they should purchase it. In order to sell the idea we had to have costs associated with it, training required, and the benefits of purchasing this technology. We also had to research the downfalls of the technology so the administration could make an informed decision. Once the research was completed, I was able to create an implementation plan for both the Chromebook’s and Britannica E-books. For Britannica E-books the implementation concept would be to use these software in our library and provide the students with the app on their phone or other electronic devices. We also talked about having teachers use this technology to provide students resources for their class that they could use on any technology they have. The implementation of the Chromebook’s would first include how to distribute them amongst teachers and the technology that needs to be placed on the Chromebook itself. The next concept would be the strategies teachers would need to have to pass them out as well as instructional strategies to use in the classroom. Finally once you have prepared all of the research and have created a successful implementation plan you can fully recommend each topic. The recommendation is crucial as you must be sure of all aspects of the technologies you recommend and have a full understanding of all positives and negatives so you can provide all the appropriate information to the administration. It is also crucial that you have a full understanding of all the capabilities of the technology and how you would implement it so the administration can have a plan prepared once the technology does arrive. Having all of the research and recommendation strategies prepared in advance will support your recommendation and normally lead to the positive outcome.
Through each of the Grant Application I was able to learn where and how to research grants available for technology education. I was also able to learn all of the steps that need to go into creating a grant and how to write a grant that would successfully bring funding for technology to my school. I was also able to learn how to create a presentation that would be presented to the administration. How to research the concept to be fully prepared for the administration and be sure to answer and all of their questions. Some aspects I would change would be to have added some multimedia to my presentation to help add a resource to my presentation and visual aid. I would also have gone to another school using both the Chromebook’s and Britannica E-books and gained knowledge from their current implementation plans.
Both of these assignments will have a direct impact on school improvement, faculty development and student learning in multiple ways. Technology integration into our lessons is a concept mentioned in the school improvement plan, specifically in regards to differentiation, communication and helping those with special needs. By bringing in the Chromebook’s I would be able to address all of these needs by allowing students opportunities to challenge themselves while also giving students with needs equipment to equal the playing field. Professional Learning about how to incorporate the Chromebooks and Britannica E-books would help the faculty development and provide them lessons and instructional guides to use both these tools. This new training would provide students with more independent and collaborative student led work that would provide rigor in the course and allow them to continue their learning away from the four walls of the school.
