2.8 Data Analysis: Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. (ISTE 2h)
I created a Data Overview of Chestatee High School from 2013 to 2016. In order to create this document I researched both the GA DOE website as well as research provided from my administration. Then from there I created graphs to help teachers better understand the data presented to them as well as provided them some observations from the data. From this I was able to create questions to get the faculty reacting to the data and create in-depth conversations about how to improve upon the areas in which the data show the school to be lacking and make sure we look past obvious stereotypes to truly find the problems and how to solve them.
Through making my Data Overview I was able to model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources by collecting, analyzing and interpreting school data collected from GA DOE and my school administration. I collected the data from the CCRPI link on GA DOE as well as from my administration. Then from there, I analyzed the data and created graphs to help make the data visual. I then interpreted the data through my observations presented to the faculty. Through this presentation I was able to model and facilitate the communications of my data findings. Through this research I was able to meet with my faculty to model and facilitate the implementation of appropriate interventions to improve our instructional practices. We used the data to find our weak points and create a curriculum and support that would maximize student learning.
By creating this artifact I learned where to find school data via GA DOE website as well as SLDS from our school. From there I learned how to read through the multitudes of information and analyze it to help benefit the students at the school. I then learned how to create graphs to help illustrate the data to faculty during the presentation. The biggest change I would make to help improve my Data Overview would be to implement more teacher support in creating this Data Overview. I feel that having teachers work together you find more information in the data and get a true comprehensive look of the school.
The Data Overview has a direct impact on school improvement as it is designed to find the weaknesses in the school from the Data. From there they allow teachers to create faculty development that will help address those weaknesses. This will then impact student learning and as the instruction will be directly related to areas they need improvement. This impact would be assessed first through the implementation of the new changes. Then ultimately it will be tested by how well the Data improves in the areas of weaknesses found in the data.
