Reflection:
Creating a Shared Vision Statement through ITEC 7410 represents how I was able to facilitate and implement the shared vision of technology use in teaching, learning and leadership. This particular vision statement was created on the context that we would create this vision as if we were able to implement if we were the principal of a school. I created this entire vision statement and through this statement I was able to create my vision of how technology and education should be blended in my school based on proven researched methods.
This artifact is specifically aligned with the standard 1.1 Shared Vision and the artifact is specifically a shared vision plan for the school. This particular plan covers aspects creating student based learning and bringing 1 to 1 technology to my school, while providing professional learning for teachers that enhance their use of technology in the classroom. By creating a Shared Vision Statement I was able to show development of a shared vision and through the implementation of these strategies in my class I have shown how to facilitate my shared vision. I specifically used research of schools who are currently incorporating technology and have improved in their scores. I also looked up research geared toward lower income schools and how they facilitated their technology in their schools. My Shared Vision Statement provides research based strategies that introduce the development student directed learning as well as 1 to 1 technology use for the school. The Shared Vision Statement also includes ways to facilitate strategies to assist through’s who don’t have the technology or internet access. Through my research my school has been able to implement some of my vision through the purchase of Chromebook’s and technology training for their teachers. My school has also implemented many of the new communication tools to enhance our communication between teachers, parents, students and stakeholders.
By creating the Shared Vision Statement I was able to learn how to use broad vision of a school. I am looking toward moving to administration in my future and by creating this document I have been able to understand that the growth of any school is a solid vision and guidance that the school should be going. I was also able to learn how to use research based strategies to provide sounds educational strategies to my faculty to enhance their lesson plans. I was also able to learn how to incorporate all students through strategies to allow students of all backgrounds to use the same research based strategies through technology that all students do. In my shared vision statement I would make two changes. The first change I would make would be to incorporate more teachers to help create and promote these strategies. I believe that if the teachers understand the strategies and therefore create a vision together with the administration they will become a team. As a team they will help promote those strategies together and have complete buy in to all aspects of the vision. The second change I would make would be using a data team to provide the research needed to help implement the rest of the data plan. I believe that as a group using all of the data in the school we could find areas of the school we could enhance through technology.
My Shared Vision Statement was able to improve my school improvement and faculty development through providing strategies that enhance and develop a sound structure of using technology to improve their educational strategies. Through new strategies and lesson plan collaboration meetings teachers have been able to create new plans to help improve student learning. This would be evident through administrative evaluations of teachers and their use of technology. By using more student directed learning strategies would allow students to think critically and improve their overall scores on both EOC’s and as they move toward college. This could be evident through the amount of student based projects presented in each class as well as the improvement in student EOC and SAT scores.
